New Zealand Maritime Images. The Golden Years (Emmanuel ..., Tauranga in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty for sale

Books

The author defines the"Golden Years"for shipping in NZ waters as the 1950s,'60s and'70s and his folio of about 300 colour photographs (most full page) are from those years; ending at the beginning of the container ship era.The author was a seafarer for 12 years, then joining the staff of the Wellington Maritime Museum and later was manager of the city's Cable Car Museum. He also had a number of marine related books to his credit prior to the"Golden Years."While locations at most NZ ports are featured, the bulk of the folio images are taken in Wellington"home port"of Makarios. In scope and quality the photo offering is superlative, featuring ships in stormy seas or lying quietly in port, arriving or leaving, big ships, small ships, harbour service craft, warships to wharf scenes, liners to tugs, fishing boats to ferries. some ships that met trouble and others, relics from the past. A nostalgic stroll down Memory Lane for any shipping enthusiast, recalling time when ships were"easy on the eye"--- to quote from the book's foreword. First edition of 2007 from Transpress NZ, 255 pages including bibliography and map showing NZ ports, text material is minimal but each image has an extended caption. Colour pictorial laminated hard covers are NF, as is the book internally. A heavy book at just over 1.2kg unpacked --- would require additional postage for international delivery.
