Books

Probably one of the earliest published remininscences of a New Zealand soldier from WWII,"Passage to Tobruk"follows the experiences of the author and his compatriot"Mac"through training, the voyage to the Middle East, into war in Greece, Crete, the North African campaigns up to the Battle of Sidi Rezegh where both were wounded. Battle sequences are interspersed with often humerous observations of out-of-action events, the dark side of war , courage and endeaviour and the legendry Battle of the Berker in Cairo. As the authoir notes, this was his book but could have been the story of"every man who left these shores."Eight b/w painting reproductions by war artist Peter McIntyre illustrate the book. First published in August 1943 with Raupo (a Reed imprint) reprints in October and November 1943 and this reprint of April 1944 taking the print run to 15,000., 143 pages, eight b/w paintings centrallly located, card covers are VG, internally VG+, author's ink signature on title page. Small, light book, posted at cost.
