"Behind Tunisian Walls,"which includes and enlarged edition of L E Douglas'"A Tourist Guide to Tunis"is described as being"A rendering from the French of"A Tunis Derriere Les Murs"by Lt- Col R B De Voligny."It is a traveller's guide to life, the sights, the customs, traditions and attractions of Tunisia as it was, probably in the early 1900s. This Douglas edition is undated, but appears to be about 1922. The translation of the De Voligny section of the book occupies 106 pages and subjects covered in the 12 chapters include ceremonies, religion and religious festivals, tales and legends, native crafts and music, dance and theatre, while the last two chapters cover the Jewish influence in Tunisia. The Douglas"Tourist Guide to Tunis"occupies pages 107 to 140 and includes information on what to see, excursions, a glossary of terms, health resorts and potteries. The guide is followed by six pages of tourism related adverts at back. Seven b/w photos in section one. Bright orange hard covers are VG+, with ornate decoration to front cover, with black titles, and decorative travel advert to back board, both free-end papers have vertical shadowing extending out from gutter, small ink name top right FFEP, otherwise text block is immaculate. An outstading copy of this rare title. A small book, postage at cost.
