Gregor Grant, then editor of Autosport, details here the brief history of the Formula 2 class of top line racing cars, which was introduced as an interin measure while new specifications for Formula 1 were studied prior to a planned introduction in 1954. The Formula 2 cars first raced in the 1948 season and continued until 1952 and it is this period that Grant's book covers. In his forward he says that to all intents and purposes the formula ended with the 1952 season. The first five of the 10 chapters cover the introduction of Formula 2, the 1948-49 racing seasons and those up to 1952. His chapter six covers the different makers and models of Formula 2 cars. Other chapters look at miscellaneous British cars, the future, the influence of BMW and"Wishful Thinking."This is an interesting look back at a now near-forgotten time in motor racing, with many notable names of makes and drivers. Not dated, but forward carries a January 1953 line. 128 pages including a double page table of brief specifications for cars raced 1952-53, 29 b/w illustrations, mainly photos, some technical, one cutaway, one in text diagram. Green hard covers with black spine titles VG+, internally excellent, no inscriptions. Unclipped pictorial DJ also VG+ with tiny tear top edge adjacent spine.
